This section will take you back in time to have a look at Lake Bernard through the newspapers.
Long before the days of Facebook, the internet, phones, and even before radio and electricity, the newspapers were everything. Lake Bernard was often mentioned in the pages of the Ottawa Citizen and the Ottawa Journal, sometimes in the Montreal Gazette and even further afield.
At the turn of the last century, summer residents began to establish cottages, and their comings and goings appeared in the personals, society, and “summer resorts” sections of the Ottawa papers. These, and related clippings, were collected and are now available in this section. They are also being posted on the Lake Bernard History Group by Will Lockhart who has offered additional context on several of them in order to enrich their role in documenting the history of the lake.
